Article 19 (1) of the Constitution guarantees six fundamental freedoms to the citizens of India and these can be exercised throughout and in all parts of the territory of India. These are: freedom of speech and expression; freedom of assembly, freedom of association, freedom of movement, freedom of residence and settlement and freedom of profession, occupation, trade or business.
In this presentation, an attempt would be made to explain the various facets of freedom of speech and expression guaranteed under Article 19 (1)(a) with the help of some important decided cases.
