Man and Machine | Jordan's 2013 Mazda 3 Skyactiv

After almost 5 years of ownership with my Mazda 3, it's about time for me to move on to better things.

I've had the idea for shooting this floating around in my head for close to 3 years now, but only in the last couple of months did it finally come to fruition; alas, I don't have nearly as much free time to shoot stuff like this as I did when I was only working part time and not going to college in 2021 and 2022. This short film serves as both the visual culmination of my time spent working on this car and a tribute to the machine itself as a symbol of what this chapter of my life meant to me.

My goal was to shoot this in the same weeklong time window during November that I shot my very first automotive cinematic of my homie Sargis' E34 BMW. I wanted to use the bright orange and red autumn leaves as a nice contrast to my monochrome-ish car, but the overcast weather didn't exactly cooperate with me and my homie's schedule to shoot footage (rollers require at least 3 people to shoot properly). I'm still satisfied with the outcome, even if it doesn't look exactly how I imagined it. Maybe I'll look back on this in a few years like my first cinematic I shot, and find its shortcomings charming.

As I start a new chapter in my life, I fear I've caught the "manual roadster" bug. I think a Porsche Boxster will cure that nicely.
