This video describes how the Albany to Perth Passenger Service from 1961 to 1978 ceased. It then became a Woodchip Transport train. As I walked along this railway line it reminded me of the time that I took the "Albany Progress" train to Perth as a sixteen year old. The train departed Albany at 5.00 pm and arrived in Perth at 7.00 am the next day. Although I was in a sleeper carraige there was very little sleep to be had. The clanging and clinking of the chain links, the rocking of the carraige and the various stops at sidings to take on water to generate more steam made for a very restless nights journey.
The train line video shows snippets of history as it winds its way along Princess Royal Drive to drop its load of bluegrum woodchips at the Albany Woodchip Terminal. It is then stockpiled prior to being loaded on to ships.
