When fly fishing for Trout, it will be easier to fool them when your fly looks REAL (especially when dry fly fishing). And the beauty of the Jimi Hendrickson is the realism. From the hare's ear body to the CDC wing and legs, it is an irresistible combo for trout. The hare's ear sits in the film, and the CDC gives it life. Put a little purple in the thorax, and it seals the deal!
The Jimi Henrickson is an original pattern of mine. It does a fantastic job representing any mayfly, from a small Blue Winged Olive up to a March Brown (and everything in between!). All you have to do is adjust the size of the hook.
The name was inspired by the Purple Haze (which is a great dry fly, as well). Think of the Jimi Hendrickson as a more realistic, subtle version. The technique is inspired by Marc Petiitjean.
These materials are the "base". It works great just as it is, but, like all patterns, you can vary the materials and colors to fit whatever mayfly you are trying to represent.
This has become my go-to mayfly pattern. It is a fish catcher! Put a row in your box and it WILL work for you!
Hope you enjoy the video.
Tight lines!
