Frank Bruno and the Pursuit of Sustainability
Our third talk of the semester was held on November 19th at 3:00 in the UMC 415/17 (4th Floor). We had a wonderful speaker, Frank Bruno, CEO of Via Mobility Services.
As the CEO of Via Mobility Services Frank Bruno has identified long-term sustainability as one of the major goals and themes of the organization, offering convenience of mobility for all who need it, and dignity, independence and self-sufficiency for people with limited mobility. Via Mobility Services has recently purchased land next to its headquarters to develop a zero-emission vehicle maintenance and job training center to be available to the whole community. In collaboration with the University of Colorado, Boulder Valley Schools, and local governments this program plans to provide workforce development opportunities while supporting the transition to electric vehicles.
Speaker Bio, Frank Bruno, Chief Executive Officer at Via Mobility Services
Frank Bruno earned a B.A from St. John’s University, and an M.S. from New York Institute of Technology. He served as Assistant Vice President for the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation before moving to Colorado. After14 years as Assistant City Manager for the City of Ft. Collins, he became Boulder’s 18th City Manager. He then transitioned to becoming Vice Chancellor of Administration at CU Boulder, with a focus on capital construction and campus infrastructure. After a brief stint as President of Western Disposal, he became CEO of Via Mobility Services in 2016.
Frank Bruno is considered by many to have been one of the most effective and productive City Managers of Boulder. During his time as Vice Chancellor of Administration at CU he was probably the first to pursue sustainability in a broad variety of areas, such as electric utility vehicles, campus building energy conservation, rebuilding the campus emergency power plant and recycling services. Both as City Manager and Vice Chancellor he was known for his non-confrontational, collaborative approach, his “big- picture” view always considering the people and the environment as a whole, and his commitment to service to the community
