Inspired by the fell-running 'rounds' of the UK, Canterbury now has its very own mountain running round, created by Martin Lukes & Grant Guise of the Canterbury BSR group.
The Craigieburn Round is a circumnavigation of the Castle Hill Basin, starting and finishing at the Cass Railway station, over the Torlesse and Craigieburn Ranges.
The route is 105km with 10,500m of elevation gain over mostly un-tracked alpine ridges, collecting 19 summits.
A beautifully aesthetic challenge of body & mind, right here in Canterbury, New Zealand.
I started my journey from Cass at 4:52am in the clockwise direction. Elapsed times were:
Avoca Homestead - 3:00
Castle Hill Peak - 8:25
Porter's Pass - 9:45
Lake Lyndon - 11:00
Red Hill - 14:26
Mt Enys - 19:26
Mt Cheeseman - 23:03
Bald Hill - 27:14
Cass - 29:19.
