Leica M2 vs M3: wide angle or tele, the first more economical and the second a forever classic
Two other Leica cameras from the historic line introduced the M mount for rangefinder cameras.
The M3 was the first camera to be released, the M standing for "Mess Sucher" and the number represents the number of guides for focal lengths (50, 90, 135mm). The refinement of the mechanics, the shot counter, and some details were more elaborate on the M3 which was intended to be the "top of the range" version.
The M2 came out later, with 2 guides for 35mm and 50mm and some details like the frame counter were a little less "luxurious".
Here is a video where I will try to compare the two Leica classics, which served as a benchmark for the user experience of all the Ms that followed, for better and for worse.
