Never in recent history has the Pakistan–Afghanistan border remained sealed for so long for virtually all forms of traffic. The prolonged closure of major crossings—Chaman, Torkham, and Ghulam Khan, Kharlachi —has frozen trade arteries that sustain millions on both sides. As the economic toll rises, no one seems to have calculated the medium to long term losses Pakistani exporters, traders and federal board of revenue (FBR) are enduring; loss of existing markets and minimal access to new ones as Afghanistan, Central Asia and exporters to Afghanistan are trying to find ways around Pakistan.
