ARETHA FRANKLIN HOSTS STAR-STUDDED BIRTHDAY BASH
After battling back from health problems, Aretha Franklin celebrates her 69th birthday with a big bash New York City Friday (25 March).
The Queen of Soul held a star-studded event at a luxury Manhattan hotel with performances including Dennis Edwards of The Temptations, and special guests including Tony Bennett, producer Clive Davis, Gayle King, Rev. Al Sharpton and Bette Midler.
The singer, dressed in a long white gown, was delighted with the celebration:
"Oh my God it is just a fabulous moment, wonderful to be in New York, to be with friends and my singers even my son drove up for this evening and my nephew came in from Knoxville, Su Simmons and Mike Dyson and just everybody."
The music legend underwent surgery late last year in her native Detroit for an undisclosed ailment. Since then, she's lost more than 80 pounds (36 kilograms). Franklin has said the weight loss was because of a change in diet and exercise.
But she does not listen to her own music while on the treadmill:
