Brief description

Under the Misls, the Sikhs established an "independent Sikh State" on Punjab soil in the 18th century. The empire represented the principles of the Sikh Gurus, which later proved to be the best state/empire in the history of the world. In the beginning, they were called twelve Jathas, but gradually the word "Jatha" was replaced by the word "Misl". A file/record register of each group was kept at Akal Takht Sahib, Amritsar. There was a separate misl (Misl/File/Record Register) for each misl or group, in which the loot and earnings of the jathedars and soldiers of each group were kept.
