Daniel 10: Understanding Spiritual Warfare

Daniel chapter 10 reveals the role and function of Angels in spiritual warfare, here we see angelic conflict being played out between three angelic beings, we are told about the demon “Prince of Persia” who was opposed to Daniel’s prayer. The angel speaking with Daniel then tell him, he was restrained by this demon for 21 days, until Michael came to help him. The message that follows is the message the Prince of Persia tried to stop in chapters 11 and 12.
Here we see the power of prayer and how the angelic and human realms operate together in advancing God’s plan for humanity. Daniel prayer empowered the angelic forces to operate in our physical realms. This means your prayers have the same effect, what you are praying about gives the power to the angels to respond, it can also cause demonic resistance, that is why Daniel models consistent prayer is warfare in the spiritual realms.

Background to Daniel Chapter 10

Daniel 10 is the final vision of Daniel and includes Daniel Chapter 11 and 12 as part of the final unit. This is the Third Year of the reign of Cyrus about 536 BC, Cyrus had given permission for the Jews to return to the land of Israel, he even allowed the Jews to rebuild the Temple. But the people of the land who had settled there were resisting their efforts through counselors and advisors to Cyrus. So, Daniel took to prayer to intervene and advance God’s program.
In response, God gives Daniel this vision of the final events leading to the Kingdom of God, Chapter 10: We see the revelation of this vision and the background of how the angel, probably Gabriel, delivers the message to Daniel.
Chapter 11: Gabriel gives Daniel a detailed progression of kingdoms and events leading to the “Abomination of Desolation” by Antiochus Epiphanes IV and the future Antichrist Daniel 11:36 through Daniel 12.
Chapter 12: We are given a more details of the final period before the establishment of the Kingdom of God, how the Antichrist, also causes the Abomination of Desolation like Antiochus IV Epiphanes. Daniel is assured his future inheritance in the Kingdom of God.

The Message of Daniel 10

This chapter is the introduction to God’s timeline of kingdoms of man to the kingdom of God. The Messiah is going to sit on David’s Throne (2 Samuel 7:14), that being the case the kingdom of God revolves around the events of the nation of Israel. Israel in Daniel day, was first under Babylonian and then under Persian control, but eventually it will be under the authority and control of God’s king the Messiah. Daniel chapters 11 and 12 map out the events leading to that point.
This is why the Prince of Persia tried to stop the message from reaching Daniel. Daniel chapter 10 shows how the angelic world and the physical world operate in conjunction with each other.
