Why Spiritual Awakening Comes With Responsibility | A Reflection with Augustine

Spiritual awakening is often portrayed as comfort, clarity, or inner peace.
But in the Augustinian tradition, awakening carries a far heavier demand.

In this reflection, we examine why spiritual awakening comes with responsibility, drawing directly from the theology of Saint Augustine of Hippo. Augustine teaches that grace does not remove moral weight — it intensifies it. The more clearly the good is known, the more accountable the soul becomes to live according to it.

This teaching explores why knowledge binds rather than excuses, why illumination without conversion becomes spiritually dangerous, and why neutrality is no longer possible once truth has been received.
