Empathy Monster Game - Agile Game - Miro - Mural

This virtual mindset and communication game was created by Todd Rice, and while it’s not an agile game per se it is extremely helpful for building strong teams, helping build a conflict resolution buffer of empathy between your people, and of course having a great time. I highly recommend this game as an ice breaker to an online conference. There are reasons we have monsters, our industries may differ, but empathy can go a long way!

-Part 1-
Define a Character
Create the name, physical features of the character and what the character does that is bad (i.e. Lava Man, he is orange and covered in bumps with sharp teeth, he spews lava all over the city-destroying homes and cars)
Choose a square and add your name above it. You can draw or use Monster Parts to create your own character.
Only the What
Name
Physical description
How is the character bad?
Drawing/Creation

-Part 2-
Go to the square to the right of your character
Below your neighboring square, grab a sticky note and comment on the other person’s ”bad” seed (not your own) regarding ”Why” you feel the character behaves the way that it does.
Show an empathetic viewpoint. (i.e. Lava Man isn’t spewing lava over town because he’s mean, but because his mother made him eat shellfish and he has an upset stomach).
Defend the Why with empathy
Why is the character disliked by the majority?
What is its backstory?
How could you help change how the character's actions are perceived?
