This 1 Rupee Silver Coin of 1945, issued during the reign of King George VI, the last British monarch to rule India. Struck at the Bombay Mint, this coin belongs to the final years of British India's silver coinage.
Minted in 50% fine silver and weighing approximately 11.66 grams, the obverse showcases the crowned bust of George VI facing left, with the inscription “GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR.”
The reverse displays the denomination “ONE RUPEE INDIA 1945”, enclosed within a detailed floral wreath design typical of the George VI rupee series.
By 1945, India was nearing independence, and silver coinage was gradually being phased out in favor of cupro-nickel. As one of the last silver rupees of British India, the 1945 issue holds both historical and collector value, especially in higher grades.
This particular coin is graded MS 60 by NGS (Numismatic Grading Services). The MS (Mint State) 60 grade indicates an uncirculated coin with no signs of wear, though it may have minor contact marks or slight surface imperfections. It’s a desirable piece for collectors interested in the closing chapter of British India's silver coinage.
