ABORIGINAL SINGLE MOTHER ARRIVES IN SAIGON TO FIGHT FOR WBC ASIA TITLE
Australian professional boxer Shanell Dargan has arrived in Ho Chi Minh City and successfully made weight at 54.4kg, ahead of her WBC Asia Super Bantamweight (vacant) title fight at Trigger Promotion 6 on Sunday, January 18.

Dargan is a single mother of Aboriginal Australian heritage, belonging to the Wiradjuri and Mununjali tribes, with Irish ancestry on her maternal side. Before boxing, she pursued a career in music, appearing on The X Factor Australia 2014 and even performing for John Legend in New York.

She began boxing in 2019, shortly after giving birth to her son, using the sport as a path to healing and self-recovery. Turning professional in 2022, Dargan quickly captured the Australian Super Bantamweight title, before claiming the WBC Asia Super Bantamweight belt in 2025 with a first-round knockout over Thailand’s Kanokwan Wirunpat.

More than a champion, Shanell Dargan sees her journey as a voice for Aboriginal communities, inspiring Indigenous women to believe in themselves. She now aims to make history as the first Aboriginal Australian female world boxing champion.
