SETTING- Recovery Room
NURSE- You are a nurse working in the operation theatre recovery room and talking with the parent of a four-year-old child, who has undergone a myringotomy just now. You are informing the child regarding the child's condition.
Tell him/her that the surgery is completed( child is under observation for one hour, perfectly alright)
Explain the reason for restricting the parent to see the child at present. ( hospital policy, drowsy due to anaesthesia)
Reassure that the pain is minimal( iv injections of pain killers followed by oral medicines )
Explain his food plan ( NPO for 1 hour, start with a soft diet and will move to normal )
Tell him/ her that the discharge will be as per the doctor's order( 1-2 days hospital stay, based on progress), explain post-discharge care and precautions to take.
Recovery Room
PATIENT
Your child underwent a myringotomy just now. You are talking to the nurse regarding his condition. You are anxious and want to see him.
Ask about your child's condition
Tell the nurse that you want to see him now. Express the concern about his pain.
Enquire about his diet ( he didn't take food from yesterday)
Ask them how long want to stay in the hospital.
Try to know the post-discharge care and management
