~Sew Happy to be back~Today is World Pancreatic Cancer Day, and a while back I made some port pillows to provide to a family member who is currently undergoing treatments for pancreatic cancer. When I saw how much these helped her, I reached out to the Hirshberg Foundation and asked if I could donate some. What started out as a simple 25-50 pillows turned into 100. In this video I show you how to make a port pillow as well as walk through the process of making all 100. I also include some pancreas facts as I knew really nothing about it before my family member's diagnosis! Full instructions are also below for sewing your own port pillow. #portpillow #worldpancreaticcancerday #sewing #beginnersewing

Port Pillow Instructions
Cut out 2 pieces of cotton fabric that are 7"x4" each. You could also use flannel or even an old wash cloth if you wanted to be more sustainable in your fabric selection. I would not recommend using an old t-shirt due to the stretch.
Cut out two pieces of hook and loop (velcro) that are around 2.5-3 inches long
With right sides together, match your fabric up, and then separate the hook and loop tape and place one piece about 1.5 inches down from one edge and pin. With the opposite piece of the hook and loop tape match this on the other side of the rectangle and then repeat this 1.5 inches from the bottom of the fabric. Full video instructions are shown at 3:10
Take a seam all the way around the rectangle but leave one short edge open. Turn the port pillow right side out, and stuff it gently. For stuffing, you can buy stuffing or you could use small pieces of fabric scraps. The idea is to gently stuff it and not have it be too firm.
Fold the short edge in on itself and then take a seam to close it up. You can either hand sew it close or machine sew it. The port pillow is now complete!
