The Missing Lunch

At lunchtime, Emma opened her backpack and gasped. Her lunch was gone! She looked around the classroom, trying not to cry.

“Did you lose something?” asked her friend Carlos.

“My lunch,” Emma said softly. “I must have left it on the bus.”

Carlos thought for a moment, then smiled. “You can share mine. I have a peanut butter sandwich and an apple. We can split them.”

Emma’s face brightened. “Really? Thanks, Carlos!”

They sat together, sharing food and laughing at each other’s jokes. Emma realized that even though she didn’t have her lunch, she had something better, a good friend.
