In this Physics video in Hindi for class 11 we explained bulk modulus as well as compressibility and derived its formula from Hooke's Law. We also explained its S.I. unit and its dimension. Bulk modulus is the ratio of the hydraulic stress to the volume strain. When pressure is applied on a body it undergoes a volume strain. This strain is the ratio of the change in volume to the original volume. The hydraulic stress is equal to the pressure. Bulk modulus is denoted by B.
B = -Δp/(ΔV/V)
Since strain is a dimensionless quantity, the unit of shear modulus is the same as that of stress i.e., N m^(–2) or Pascal (Pa).
Compressibility is the reciprocal of the bulk modulus and is denoted by k.
k = -(ΔV/V)/Δp
Compressibility is defined as the change in volume per unit volume per unit change in pressure.
