Here is the recipe for Kathrikkai Vendhaya Masiyal / கத்திரிக்கா வெந்தய மசியல்

This is a make shift set up for the #AmmavumNaanum series. We were almost ready to start shoot for Season 2, when the #Corona outbreak began. So we came up with something like this - literally fresh from the kitchen. Let me know how you guys liked it.

Kathrikkai Vendhaya Masiyal:

Ingredients:
Eggplant (green) - 2 slit length wise and into small pieces
Green chillies - 2 slit
Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp
Toor dhal - 1 cup
Fenugreek seeds - a little more than 1/4 cup
Turmeric - 1 tsp
Sambar powder - 3 tsp
Tamarind - size of a lemon
Salt - to taste
Coriander leaves for garnish

Tempering:
Mustard - 1 tsp
Red chilies - 2

Method:

Pressure cook toor dhal and fenugreek seeds with turmeric and oil. Make sure it is not mushy
Extract tamarind juice and boil adding some turmeric, asafoetida, salt
Once this comes to a boil, add the slit eggplants, cover and cook till soft
Add the cooked toor dhal and fenugreek to the mixture and let it boil over.
Add water to dilute if necessary
Add sambar powder, check for salt.
Temper with mustard seeds and red chillies.
Garnish with coarsely chopped coriander leaves.

Serve hot with rice of your choice.
