A severe snow storm and poor visibility caused a pile-up of at least 30 vehicles in Kazakhstan on a highway linking capital Astana with the city of Shchukinsk, the Kazakh emergencies ministry said on Friday (January 3). The massive crash was one of several accidents reported on Kazakh highways due to the severe wintry weather conditions.There have been no reports of serious injuries or fatalities following the road accidents. Emergency services helped evacuate some stranded drivers and their passengers while other teams worked to clear the roads of damaged vehicles. Local media said authorities had issued road travel warnings due to the deteriorating weather conditions.
