Mechanical piano Melodico from Racca, Bologna, Italy, 1890
Hand-crank (right hand) controls a series of hammers moving back and forward. Through a mechanism, the cardboard prevents the hammers to hit the strings, expect for the notes corresponding to the perforation. The dynamics are controlled by a lever (left hand). The movement of the hammers result then the cymbalum-like sound.
