It is very important to investigate structures and concentrations for understanding performances of materials. A high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) had been given much contribution for structure analysis in atomic level. Recently, high resolution and high sensitivity analytical instruments (e.g. SDD X-ray detector) have become in practical use; therefore, high performance and user friendly analytical TEMs are introduced into the market . Owing to the advanced TEMs, data collection can be carried out with less effort of operator. On the other hand, in order to perform correct data analysis, the specimen preparation is most important issues. In the lecture, basic principle of TEM is introduced at first, and the analytical techniques and practical examples of the data are introduced including the specimen preparation methods.
