I’ve struggled with birthday depression for years, and if you’re a perfectionist, you know how heavy birthdays can start to feel. When you put pressure on yourself to make every minute, second, and moment count, your birthday stops feeling like a celebration and starts feeling like a scoreboard.
As my birthday approaches, that pressure tends to intensify. Instead of excitement, I find myself thinking about everything I haven’t done yet, everything I haven’t accomplished, and all the ways I thought I’d be “further along” by now. In some years, it made me want to skip my birthday altogether.
This isn't a rare feeling; it's actually a common symptom of birthday depression, and if you're a perfectionist like me, you may find that this becomes a yearly pattern.
