Tow Truck Driver Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver on Freeway in South Los Angeles

VERMONT KNOLLS, LOS ANGELES, Oct. 7 (KNN) – A tow truck driver was struck and killed while outside his vehicle on the shoulder of the 110 Freeway early Tuesday morning.

Los Angeles Fire Department and California Highway Patrol Central units responded to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on the southbound 110 Freeway, located between Florence Avenue and Manchester Boulevard in the Vermont Knolls area of South Los Angeles.

Officers learned that a tow truck driver was assisting another vehicle on the right shoulder when he was struck by a passing car.

Upon arrival, authorities found the male tow truck driver beyond medical help. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel declared him deceased at the scene.

The driver of the sedan involved in the incident fled the scene. The vehicle, a black Mercedes, was later located further down the freeway, but the driver was not present. The sedan sustained significant damage from the collision and was missing its front passenger wheel.
