Barsey or Varsey and Hilley are two villages in South Sikkim which are known for facinating bloom of Rhododendrons in various colors and hues.
This is Rhododendron country and during spring this entire area is covered in a riot of colors from the blooming Rhododendrons. The season starts from late February and goes upto late March.
We wanted to experience this and the best possible option to watch the Rhododendrons in their full glory was to take up the short trek of four and half kilometres between Hilley and Barsey.
This is a walk rather than trek. It’s an easy trail, no steep gradients or tricky climbs. Almost anybody, children and elderly alike, can attempt this small trek which exposes the visitor to an amazingly colorful world of Rhododendrons.
However, nature wasn’t so kind to us. We went almost at the end of the season and to make matters worse, the area was hit by severe hailstorm and heavy rains which destroyed the flowers. In fact, it rained on the day we went for the trek and we weren’t blessed with the gorgeous view one can expect during the season.
However what we saw wasn’t entirely bad and I had enjoyed the trek immensely.
Putting up the video which covers the entire trail. Hope you will enjoy it.
