Animism teaches us about the nature of human and non-human perceptions.
Animism, in my understanding, is the belief that everything in nature like plants, animals, rivers, rocks, even the wind, has a spirit or consciousness. It’s not about worshiping nature, but about being in relationship with it.
This way of seeing the world challenges the Western idea that humans are separate from or above nature. Instead, it reminds us that we are part of a vast web of life, where reciprocity, respect, and care are central.
Many Indigenous cultures across the world have practiced forms of animism for generations—not as a religion, but as a way of life. It’s about listening, feeling, and honoring the aliveness of all things.
In a time where the dominant systems treat land and water as “resources,” animism teaches us that they are relatives.
