Welcome to the Afrika Festival Hertme Archive
Born to a Frafra father and an Akim mother, Alogte Oho grew up in the rainforest of Southern Ghana before moving as a young boy to Frafra land in the savannah of Northern Ghana. Growing up in Namoo, his father's home village, he was deeply impressed by the glorious moments he experienced during services at the village church. All that singing and drumming got him first in church every Sunday, long before the service started.
He couldn't wait to be old enough to join the church choir. When he turned thirteen, his wish finally came true and he immediately had his first studio recording, as the choir recorded a series of cassettes, on which he could also be heard.
After school he focused on his own career as a Frafra gospel singer. In 2007 he released his first album, but it took another five years before he broke through as a singer.
In his twenties, a serious accident nearly killed him. While in the hospital, he wrote his gloriously famous song “Mam Yinne Wa” ('God, You Love Me So') – as a thank you for surviving the accident. He performs that song all over the world to this day. Be sure to watch this performance in the church and practice the steps so that you are well prepared in Hertme later!
Alogte Oho gathered a group of musicians around him, His Sounds of Joy, and after the release of his third album in 2012, which also includes the song "Mam Yinne Wa", he was booked for almost all festivals and celebrations in the region and he was also invited to almost all the countless Frafra communities that exist all over Ghana.
