Japan Day 6 - Meiji Jingu Shrine, Unplan Hostel and Shinjuku

October 5th 2023. Day 6 out of 24 in Japan! I traveled to Japan in October of 2023, and it was hands down one of the best experiences of my life. Just me, my backpack and a whole country to explore.

Today I started off day 6 by going for a run in Yoyogi Park. I highly recommend checking in out. On a whim, I decided to check out the nearby Meiji Jingu Shrine as well, and was not disappointed. Being here felt as if I was in another era.

Afterwards, I checked out of Commun Hostel in Shibuya, and made my way to Unplan Hostel in Shinjuku. After settling in, I made my way to downtown Shinjuku, were I enjoyed the liveliness of the area, had some food/drinks, and called it a night after.


Stay:

In this video, I stayed at Unplan Hostel in Shinjuku. The amenities and common areas are nice. However, I made the mistake of booking a shared dormitory. I would love to go back, but next time book a private room at this hostel. I booked through Expedia, but have linked their direct website below:

Commuting:

If you are only staying in Tokyo, the local transit system is more than efficient to get around. However, if you are looking to travel to other cities, consider getting a Japan Rail (JR) pass. I purchased mine from Japan Experience, and have linked their website below. Order sufficiently ahead of time to allow your paperwork to arrive in the mail to your actual address. When you're in Japan, you need to present this paperwork to a JR office, where you can redeem your JR pass.
