In this narrated tutorial I am hand coloring the Windansea Shack with Marshall Photo Oils on light jet Photo Paper. This shack is located at Windansea Beach, La Jolla, California.
This technique is known as hand tinting black and white photographs or hand coloring black and white photographs.
The photo was printed at 24x12 inches with a light jet on matte photo paper. This is an excellent paper for use with Marshall Photo Oils and acrylics. You can also print your own photos on inkjet paper and coat them with acrylic medium, after which you can use the oils on those too. Dark room papers such as Ilford Warmtone Semi-Matt and Ilford Matte also go well with Marshall Photo Oils.
I colored it with cotton rounds and cotton swabs. These cotton tools are also good to remove paint. I used Sky Blue, Chinese Blue, Burnt Sienna, Oxide Green and Carmine. Marshall photo oils are very translucent oils and perfect for coloring resin-coated photographs.
Here is a video on when I colored a b&w photo that I shot from underneath the shack: • Hand Coloring Black And White Photos with ...
