Who is Haidakhan Babaji

In today's materialistic world, people have moved away from their true nature. There is rampant discontentment and disconnect visible in the societies across the world. Peace and harmony have become a dire necessity for saving humanity from reaching a disastrous doom. The only way to attain this is by expanding the collective consciousness and gently guiding the masses towards their true spiritual nature.

What is being spiritual? How does one align self to spiritual appropriateness? The spiritual movement started by Baba Hariakhan between the years 1860 - 1922 seems to hold the torch illuminating the path of the seekers to find answers to these daunting questions.

In a small serene Kumaon Mount Kailash, in a remote village called Hariakhan, named after the saint, Baba Hariakhan, the journey to divinity progressed leading the divine light until the year 1922.

There was a spiritual calling again in June 1970, when Baba Haidakhan appeared in a cave at the foot of Kumaon Mount Kailash. He was believed to be a " Maha Avatar, not born out of a woman. He had spent forty-five days in meditation in a small temple on the foothills of Kumaon Mount Kailash.




In 1971, in a sworn testimony, he convinced the judge of the Haldwani court that he was the reincarnation of the "old Hariakhan Baba" and claimed the right to use the ashrams in Kathgaria and Haida Khan.

Baba Haidakhan travelled across the globe and was introduced to the western world by Leonard Orr, an exponent of immortalism and a founder of the breath work practice of rebirthing. This enabled Baba to successfully create spiritual cult in western countries like; Austria, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. In India a well-known celebrity from the Hindi cinema, Shammi Kapoor was one of the many followers of Baba Haidakhan.

Baba’s preaching contributed to the popularity of this cult which saw masses placing their immense faith in him. He sermonized his followers by giving the importance of 'Karma Yoga', hard work and 'Kriya Yoga', execution of hard work with perfection. He spoke about healing the ailing world by substituting inhumanity with humanity and being in harmony with the self and the surroundings. Elevation of mankind by respecting all the religions is one of the aims of his cult, extending the thought of one religion cannot be responsible for guiding humanity to a higher path, to his followers. According to him, all religions are incorporated in the principles of Truth, Simplicity and Love.

Restoration of Sanatan Dharma is yet another undertaking of Baba Haidakhan. Sanatan Dharma can be understood as a primordial religion reflecting natural laws established at the beginning of the creation.

He stated that everything in this world is transient by sounding the word, 'Phuro', highlighting the true reality of proceeding on the path of truth, to keep the company of saintly people, to render services to less fortunate beings and work towards their upliftment. Baba Haidakhan’s mantra of progress on the path of divinity is " "Aum Namah Shivay ", the most powerful sound of the creation.

The spiritual routine consisted of waking up at 3:00 am, bathing in Gaula river followed by meditation, Havans were also performed on auspicious occasions. Ceremonial Chandan, the meeting with devotees used to be 5:00 am, Aarti at 6:00 am and karma yoga till noon. Lunch was the only meal taken in a day. After resuming karma yoga post lunch, darshan for individual audience was arranged towards evening. The daily rituals concluded with evening bath, Aarti and short sermons.

Baba Haidakhan 's spiritual journey came to rest in peace owing to heart attack on 14th February 1984, but the scent of spiritualism continues to spread by the musicians Shri Gopal Hari and his spouse Ambika, they formed a group called 'Goma', which performed Haidakhandi chants on their albums; 'River of grace ', 'Sacred source ' and third album of the Haidakhandi Aarti which contains the sanctity of Baba Haidakhandi's divine message , " The only true man is one who practices humanism, this is the only way to success in life".
