50 years ago, South Vietnam and the capital city of Saigon fell to the North Vietnamese. Vietnam as a whole was in ruins and faced the daunting task of reunification after a brutal multi-decade war for independence. This included the full renaming of the city of Saigon to what is now known as Ho Chi Minh City. But despite the country being in ruins, South Vietnam falling completely, and foreign aid mostly being cut off entirely, today Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) has become Vietnam's economic center once again, boasting impressive skyscrapers, modern stores, a brand new metro, and a thriving population. So how did the city do it?

In this episode, Geoff and Alexa hit the streets of Ho Chi Minh City to see what it looks like today, while revisiting what it was just a few decades earlier. They start by exploring the famous Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong River Delta, before diving deep into the modern city that it's become today.
