However, the Prophet Muhammad (ص) and the great Sufi sages sought to "die before death": that is, to "die" to one's lower, egoistic self, and to awaken to our hidden, divine potential. This immense journey, they teach, is the highest aim of our existence. And in order to achieve this reality, many lived a life of reflection, spirituality and seclusion ('khalwa'), away from the busyness of worldly life. Bismillah, let's begin, insha'Allah.
