HOW TO GET TO THE AXALP SWISS AIR FORCE DISPLAY - Axalp-Ebenfluh Switzerland - (October 2023) - (4K)

After attending the Swiss Air Force Display at Axalp for the first time in 2022, trying to find information on how to get there was limited. There were plenty of blogs, and articles, but only limited content on Youtube.

So aside from heading up the mountain to view the display in 2023, I tried to grab as much footage as I could in the hope it may help others know exactly what is required to get to the top, or even just the first viewing area, Brau.

As I was staying in the area for a week, I based myself in Interlaken, many who come to visit the Display, stay a little closer, in Brienz, Meiringen or Axalp itself.

Whilst the event is free, you need to pre-book shuttle bus, and/or chairlift tickets in advance, and they do sell out.

After catching a train to Brienz, it was a short bus shuttle ride to the staging area where tickets were checked, a wrist band provided, ear plus offered, then it was on to another bus to the village of Axalp.

Once at Axalp it is a short walk to the Axalp Windegg chairlift and a ride further up the mountain.

The first part of the walk, is mostly level, with some minor inclines, and then you hit the real climb.

In combination with the set of stairs installed to get over some rocky outcrops, it is a seriously steep climb to the first viewing area, Brau. They have toilets there, and if you cannot go any further this is a great spot to see the aircraft overhead.

Then you have Tschingel, the big steep hill, where most people go, and where I went.

The video will show how steep that is, and at 10:00am the practice flights started (no firing of guns yet). It was good to get a different angle of the aircraft.

Tschingel has a fully stocked kiosk, toilets, and first aid station.

Once the show concluded, expect a slow process getting back down, not just due to the terrain, but everyone is leaving at the same time. In the morning, people make the ascent from 7am through to 1:30pm (for a 2pm start).

There is a very long queue for the Chairlift, and the same for the bus.

It was 8pm when I finally arrived at Brienz Railway Station, so it is a long day, but well worth it.

The next Swiss Air Force Display at Axalp will be in October, 2025.
