Hey, guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today, we've got a 2024 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, and we're gonna be taking a look at and I'm gonna show you how to install the etrailer.com invisible base plate. The reason why it's called the invisible base plate is because the main portion of our base plate is going to be behind the bumper. So the main support beam is not gonna be out and exposed. I've seen a lot of those going down the road and they particularly don't look good. And when you're towing a brand new jeep behind a brand new RV, you want everything to kind of look nice and clean.

When you're not towing, the only thing that you will see, it's going to be this little square portion here and then your tabs for your safety cables. These tabs are really, really nice to be able to bolt up your breakaway switch to, or if you have an air fitting for an Air Force One braking system, you can bolt that up to too. It has these holes in the end so that you can put your hooks from your safety cables in. These are really, really big safety cable ends because they had been towing with something much larger before, so they're have a very, very high rating. But it's nice that those holes are there for you to connect to.

The base plate is going to be the physical connection point for your tow bar to attach to your base plate. The other four main flat towing components that you're gonna need is going to be your safety cables, your braking system, your diode wiring, and your tow bar itself. When you're not flat towing your vehicle, you just will take your components off of your base plate, pull our pins. So you can see here, it's pretty clean even with those tabs in there. But if you don't want to drive around with those in, if you're only staying somewhere for a night, I wouldn't really worry about taking 'em out.

But if you're staying somewhere for a long time, you could take those out, and it's gonna come with little caps that you can put in these holes so that they don't get dirty. On a stock height Jeep, the center of the pinhole here to the ground is going to be 16 1/2 inches. That will give you a good idea if you need a high-low adapter for your RV so that you're within three inches of level on your tow bar. You'll have to have that within three inches because if it's not, you can have the tendency of the vehicle when you're coming to a safe and slow stop the vehicle's either going dive underneath the tow bar or jump over it, and you don't want that to happen. So that three inches of high or low.

Our particular hitch here is 19 inches tall to the center of the hitch pin. So we're at about 2 1/2 inches, so we're good to go. As far as the installation goes, for this particular installation, I definitely think it's one that you could do from home. With that invisible base plate, you are gonna have to take your rock guard off and your bumper, which is not super difficult. I would say probably the hardest part about this install is gonna be trimming out the plastic rock guard for the base plate ends to be able to fit through it. Luckily, in our instruction manual, we're gonna get some templates that you just cut out of paper and we're gonna tape them to the rock guard themselves and then trace 'em out with a marker and we can cut 'em out. That'll get you pretty close. You may have to do a little bit of fine trimming around it in order to slide it right over. But with that being said, let's go ahead and take a look at that installation. To begin our installation, we're gonna need a flathead screwdriver. And up here behind our bumper, we're gonna have a couple of push pin fasteners. Just take that flathead screwdriver, push it down, pop that center out, and then what we can do is we will use it to pop the base out. The center will unlock it. And have to come up a little bit more. There we go. And then we can pop that base out and that'll release the fastener. On our skid plate here, this plastic skid plate, we're gonna have two eight millimeter screws that we'll have to take out and they're both down here in the bottom. And then up here, we're gonna have a bunch of push pin fasteners, they look just like this, all along the front of this plastic skid plate that we'll have to pop out.
