Using the inbuilt effects onboard the new Yamaha TAG3C TransAcoustic.
The guitar was unplugged during this recording, with the sound being picked up exclusively from two microphones, a Shure SM81 (pointed at the sound hole) and an Aston Spirit (pointed at the body). This combination of large and small diaphragm condenser mics was intended to give an accurate representation of how the inbuilt effects sound acoustically, i.e. what is heard by the player when using the effects unplugged.
All the effects used in this video are the default effect types, so without accessing or changing anything from within the app. It is possible to change the individual effects by accessing the app, for example to switch the reverb type from Hall to Plate (providing even more options). However, this video only shows how each effect sounds initially before tweaking in the app. The default effect set-up (types) for each effect which can be heard in this video are therefore as follows:
Reverb – ‘Hall’
Chorus – ‘Full Voice’
Delay – ‘Simple Delay’
The first half of the video uses a couple of different combinations I particularly liked, and which I think work well for fingerpicking styles.
The second half of the video (with a camera also pointed at the preamp) was simply me messing around over a basic chord progression whilst quickly dialling in random effect combinations, to contrast and compare how they changed up the sound.
