One Feature Film Later... Can I still recommend the DXTX?

We ran the Deity DXTX as our primary recorder for a 20-day feature film—here’s the no-BS, real-world verdict.
Pros: 32-bit float saved takes (huge headroom in post), built-in timecode played perfectly with our Deity TC1s, RED, and PR-2 units, the small form factor fit anywhere (handheld “stage-mic” style, clamped to rigs, hidden in tight spaces), the app made setup/control painless, and the post workflow (auto levels but full data recovery) was a legit time saver. USB file transfer helped when we forgot an SD adapter, and storage never became a problem.
Cons: Monitoring via app had too much latency (we hacked a workaround via camera + DJI Mic), transmit path is 24-bit only, battery life drops fast with phantom power, file names reset after new cards (renaming daily was mandatory), and the transmitted audio didn’t sound great. If you’ve dialed in better send quality, drop your settings below.
Bottom line: Not perfect, but the DXTX delivered a reliable 32-bit + timecode workflow on an indie feature without breaking the bank. We’d use it again—with better power planning and a monitoring plan.
