Lynyrd Skynyrd's #OdetoFreedom isn't her biggest commercial hit, but the song immortalized her and became the unofficial anthem for an entire southern rock nation. Few songs have defined a band or a genre as much as ›Free Bird‹ did.

It's just our song too; Christian and I love the song. You hear it once and then you love it. You hear it again and again, you love it more and more. Because the song has everything that life is about.

And it fits right into this time, oh, it always fits: Free Bird.

In 1974, Free Bird finally became a hit, a full year after it was first released. Today, over 40 years after Ronnie Van Zant's death in a plane crash, and almost 30 years after its creator Allen Collins died in a car accident, ›Free Bird‹ remains Lynyrd Skynyrd's most iconic song and one of the milestones of classic rock canon .
