Known locally as The Inks, The Saltmarsh around Wigtown Bay in Galloway, south-west Scotland, is a unique natural environment, a strange and stunning landscape rich in biodiversity, especially birdlife.
In the final of five "chapters" that make up a longer film, ranger Elizabeth Tindal and author Stephen Rutt examine the extraordinary biodiversity of the marshlands that make up Wigtown Bay. All life is here, between the grazed and the ungrazed land.
This film - and its four companion pieces - was commissioned by the Wigtown Book Festival in 2020, as part of Scotland Year of Coasts and Waters, supported by NatureScot. Writer Stephen Rutt was also commissioned to write a book about the saltmarsh's natural and human history - also titled The Saltmarsh Library - which is due for publication in 2021.
The film was produced by CT Productions (wearectproductions.com) and shot by Colin Tennant.
