Armenian music recorded during the 1940s and 50s in the then-Soviet Union came to be released in the United States on record labels with names such as “Yerker Hayastenen” (Songs in Armenia) or “Hayastanian Dzaynapnakner” (Armenian Records). One well-recorded group was Tatul Altunyan’s “Armenian Folk Song and Dance Ensemble,” which was later featured on a number of LPs of traditional Armenian music.
