After the Ram Mandir inauguration in Ayodhya, a fresh controversy has erupted following an incident where a man allegedly tried to offer namaz inside the temple premises. The issue has sparked nationwide debate after Hanumangarhi Mahant Raju Das demanded a complete ban on Muslim entry in Ayodhya, citing religious sanctity and repeated provocative incidents.

The question now being debated is — Can Ayodhya be declared a restricted religious zone like Mecca and Medina? Is it constitutionally possible to ban the entry of non-Hindus in a religious city of India?

The controversy has further intensified as similar demands are being raised for the Haridwar Kumbh Mela, where saints and religious organisations have sought a ban on non-Hindu entry in the Kumbh area and ghats, citing security and religious purity.

Supporters argue that if Islamic holy cities like Mecca and Medina prohibit non-Muslims, Hindu pilgrimage centres should also be protected. Critics, however, say such demands go against India’s constitutional values and secular framework.

With BJP governments in both Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the political stakes are high. Will the government support these demands, bring new laws, or reject them altogether?
