Cannibal Capers (1930) is a Silly Symphony short directed by Burt Gillett and released by Walt Disney Productions on March 13, 1930.
The cartoon opens with a group of tribal-style “cannibals” dancing rhythmically in the jungle around drums and bones.
Their revelry suddenly breaks down when a ferocious lion appears — triggering a wild chase through the jungle.
What follows is typical of early animation slapstick: frantic escapes, chaotic motion, and exaggerated cartoon violence as the dancers and the lion dash around, culminating with the lion being chased off.
Given its age and subject matter, some modern viewers consider the cartoon’s depiction of African‑tribal stereotypes problematic — a side of its legacy that reflects the era’s harmful caricature conventions.
