Handicraft 101: Making Coconut Lamp

Coconut lamp is a good interior decoration at home and its uniqueness can catch the attention of the visitors. It shows not just the creativity but also hard work of the handicraft maker. This handicraft can be sold to souvenir shops and can be a good source of income.

Materials and Tools Needed


1. Coconut Shells
2 big
2 small (circ: 13-14 inches)
2. Glue Gun
3. Glue Sticks
4. 2 Small bulb (5 W in any color)
5. 2 Receptacle
6. Wire (40 inches)
7. Male Plug
8. 4 pcs. Wood Screw
9. Electric Drill
10. Drill Bits (in 2 sizes)
11. Grinder
12. Decorative Designs
13. Varnish
14. Paint Brush


Procedure

1. Prepare the needed materials
2. Using grinder, remove the topmost part of 2 small coconut shells. It will serve as the lid and holder of receptacles.
3. Create holes in small coconut shells using electric drills. Use different sizes of drill bit in making your own designs.
4. For the leaves like structure of the lamp, divide the both halves of big coconut shell into 8 parts. Use grinder to cut it.
5. After dividing the big coconut shell into pieces, remove the 2 edges at the bottom to form a leaf shape.
6. Join the leaves pieces using glue gun. Put your preferred decoration on top to cover the joining point.
7. For the base, cut the bottom part of big coconut shell. One-fourth of it size is needed.
8. Connect the bamboo to the base using screws and put the 2 small coconut shells attached to the sides of bamboo.
9. In the lid of small coconut shells, glue the receptacles. And install the wire properly.
10. Make a small hole at the back side of the bamboo and insert the wire until it reaches the bottom. It is done to hide the wire. Then connect the male plug.
11. Attached the leaves like structure on top using glue gun.
12. And lastly, after assembling the parts of the coconut lamp, you may now install the bulbs and add decorative designs. For finishing, use varnish in any shade you want.
