Antonio Vivaldi placed a poem in his score of 'The Four Seasons'. In this movement, the verses describe nymphs and shepherds dancing to the rustic bagpipes. The music imitates the sound of the 'zampogna' - Italian bagpipes. The Carnival Band take Vivaldi at his word!
