The Freshmaka is the duo of Samski aka Sam Hollander and collaborator, Duke Mushroom whom first met in the darkness of New York City in 1991. First composing for soundtracks, like Whoopi Goldberg’s Eddie, they then set their sights on building their magnum opus: I Am The Freshmaka.
I Am The Freshmaka is 13 tracks of funky flavored dirty New York sonic water. Cutting and pasting a slew of samples including King Crimson, Nicolette Larson among more obscurities, this is an album that conjures the same fun emotions as early De La Soul and their ring leader, Prince Paul. This entire album is funky, odd, self-deprecating and inventive. Definitely worth your time sit back, giggle, maybe tuff a little something and groove.
