A Classic Maine Hike: Tumbledown Mountain Pond via Parker Ridge Trail & Brook Trail | Public Lands

A classic Maine hike, all the way! Tumbledown Public Lands have a crazy rich history. One of the most distinct features is an alpine pond (or, a "tarn" = a small mountain lake) just below the Tumbledown Mountain summit. On this hike, I took the Parker Ridge Trail up and the Brook Trail down. For me, this was the perfect route in order to ascend the steep, slick rock slabs and not worry about getting down them. Maine Trail Finder lists the PRT as “advanced” and the BT as “moderate”. There were signs posted that the road to the trailhead is closed November 1st to May 1st. If you have a special trip planned any time around those closing dates, I’d double check with the local state park to see if they are closed/open already (Mount Blue State Park).

Because I had some commitments the morning and evening of this hike, I was only able to do the Parker Ridge Loop. I can’t wait to go back and check out all the Tumbledown Mountain peaks as well as Little Jackson Mountain. There definitely is some magic happening up there! I highly recommend the Parker Ridge for those that want to get away from the crowds on the Brook Trail and are down for a challenge. The unique views from the ridge are pretty special.
