CC+SI vs 3:1 C:V during neonatal CPR - another SURV1VE

Researchers tested a new resuscitation method — continuous chest compressions with a gentle sustained breath (CC+SI) — against the traditional 3:1 compression-to-breath ratio in 132 newborn piglets with asphyxia-induced cardiac arrest. Both methods had similar success in restarting the heart, but CC+SI led to a much faster recovery, with return of circulation occurring about 74 seconds sooner. These promising findings support further human studies, including the upcoming CIHR-funded SURV1VE-2 trial starting in 2026.
