THIS IS NOT TRUE!

Regardless of the battery type, they will all require the terminals to be checked and cleaned if necessary and the alternator charge rate checked during every service.

Any corrosive build up on the outside of the battery also requires cleaning, this will reduce the likelihood of the battery self discharging.

Once discharged (flattened), maintenance free batteries along with all other battery types will require recharging using an appropriate multi-stage battery charger.
