This is a video interactive backing track to improvise on the whole structure of this great jazz standard from Paul Desmond.

The drum loop is taken from the app Drumgenius and it reproduces the part played by drummer Joe Morello in the historical version from the Dave Brubeck quartet.
In this version we are going to play on a tempo which is a little slower than that of the original verison.

Each 5/4 bar is divided in 3+2. In the A part we play the Ebm7 chord on the first 3/4 and the Bbm7 on the remaining two beats. In the B part the chord pairs split the bars in the same way.

In the original version the solos are only on the A part, but instead we are going to improvise on the whole structure here, playing one chorus each.
You can play the melody with me (or the chords, if you still have to learn the theme) in the first chorus.
Then you start soloing: A (8 bars) B (8 bars) A (8 bars).
Then you play the chords, ABA, and I improvise... and so on.

For the solo we can use:

Part A
Db major scale, considering the Ebm7 as its second degree; in modal terms, this is Eb dorian.
Or Eb minor pentatonic scale (+blue notes)

Part B
Gb major scale


As usually in these audio interactive backing tracks it's very important to concentrate on the rhythm and the structure: in this particular one the odd meter makes it even more challenging...
Pay close attention to the bass and the drums!
