In Part 2 of our Japan travel series, we left behind the busy streets of Tokyo and headed into the peaceful mountains of Hakone — expecting blue skies and beautiful views of Mount Fuji.
Instead? Non-stop rain, mist, and a whole lot of atmospheric surprises (Lake Ashi was particularly reminiscent of Twin Peaks).

But honestly… it made the trip even more magical. We soaked in onsens, explored museums, cruised across Lake Ashi, and strained to catch sight of Mount Fuji through the driving rain. Hakone is full of quiet beauty, and even in the rain, it didn’t disappoint. If you're planning a trip to Japan in 2025, this is your sign to include it — weather and all.

Hakone Ginyu:
We can't really recommend it enough. Possibly one of the finest hotels we've ever stayed in. Modern, but traditional at the same time. The food, staff and setting were all outstanding!
